I felt the ending somewhat incomplete, and it left me with a lot of curiosity. I ended up with a lot of questions to be honest.

Patrick suffered the effects of homophobia, repressive society and Marion's fury. Marion realized that Tom didn't really love her romantically, and she didn't want to lose him. It was painful, for all three characters. For talking about how Patrick Hazlewood and Tom Burgess loved each other. In prison, Patrick couldn't stop thinking about him, and when he talks about him he gets beaten up by criminals, for being gay and for talking about homosexuality. In an act of desperation, helplessness and fear of losing Tom, she sends an anonymous letter to Patrick's boss revealing his homosexuality, being the cause of Patrick's arrest. She unburdens herself and expresses all her feelings, and the anger she felt towards Tom for being the way he is. When Marion finds out about Tom and Patrick's homosexuality, she turns to Julia, her friend and co-worker, who is also a teacher. Either way, it made me feel some kind of hate towards her. I also felt that she was homophobic at some point, but at the same time that could've been confused with her fear and anger of the possibility of losing Tom. Marion lived a long time feeling guilty, and trying to patch up her actions with other actions, such as taking care of Patrick. I suppose that in the end she understood how badly the things she did were, and that she was aware of the clear consequences her compulsive actions brought. Nothing was enough, and that led her to do terrible things. She realized that no matter what she did, she couldn't satisfy Tom. That took her to the extreme Marion freaked out. Or if not dependency, then an excessive desire. Marion changed over time and began to form a dependency towards Tom. I felt like she really needed to fit in with Tom, and it was kind of. Marion didn't say a lot of things that she thought, and she lied about some things to fit in with him. There came a point where Marion started acting differently with Tom to fit in with him, and that's when I started to think that Marion started to make herself more vulnerable because of the love she had for Tom.
